The France international defender, 27, was frozen out under Enzo Maresca and spent the first half of this season training away from the first team having failed to find a new club in the summer window. He joined West Ham United on loan in January and has made 15 appearances as the Hammers battle to avoid relegation.
Speaking to Canal+ in France, Disasi reflected on the bomb squad experience in detail.
"It was like a survivor show, someone got kicked out every week. Imagine, that locker room at the beginning was huge. Sterling and I were already there, and we stayed. Then there was Lesley Ugochukwu, Joao Felix, Renato Veiga and Chilwell. We trained together."
"The next day you could come in and say, 'Where is he? Ah, he's found his club. Ah, he's at his place, he's found his club.'"
"Until Raheem and I were left like that. It was just the two of us."
The absence of structure and purpose took its toll.
"I remember the first day, I woke up like this: 'Well, what do I do today? I have no training, no match to prepare for.' You start sleeping late, eating a bit poorly, you wander around."
Disasi joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in August 2023 for around £39 million and made 61 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino before losing his place entirely when Maresca arrived. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but a permanent move did not materialise and he returned to Stamford Bridge with no clear future.
The bomb squad's combined transfer fees totalled approximately £216 million — Joao Felix at £42.7 million, Lesley Ugochukwu at £23.5 million, Renato Veiga at £12 million, Ben Chilwell at £50 million, Raheem Sterling at £50 million and Disasi himself at £38.7 million.
Sterling, the last man standing alongside Disasi, eventually joined Feyenoord in February. Disasi's loan to West Ham United followed days later.
He was briefly reintegrated into first-team training under Liam Rosenior in November before the move to east London was confirmed. Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson suggested Chelsea may yet be forced to reconsider their stance, noting the club "will be looking back at him" given his form at the London Stadium.
Whether that amounts to a reprieve or a permanent exit will be decided this summer.
