The 22-year-old, who has family ties to Galicia, made just seven league appearances in his first campaign under Imanol Idiakez and then Óscar Gilsanz. He returned with more purpose last season as Deportivo secured promotion, featuring in 28 Segunda División matches and speaking publicly about a new-found maturity, only to fade from the picture again after a costly error in a match at Huesca that cost his side victory in the closing stages.
With no route back into Hidalgo's first-team squad, the club registered him for LaLiga without assigning him a shirt number while working to find an exit before the deadline.
Patiño is one of three Deportivo players yet to feature at all across the club's opening three matches this season, alongside José Ángel and Dani Barcia, none of whom have made a single squad for games against Elche, Málaga or Valencia.
"It hasn't been easy," Soriano admitted of the process. Eric Puerto is separately closing in on a loan to Portuguese side Penafiel, while Barcia has expressed reservations over interest from clubs in the Spanish second tier.
Completing these departures remains Deportivo's priority in the closing hours of the window, with the club still hoping to add a left-footed centre-back, though talks over Napoli's Juan Jesús have grown complicated in recent hours.
Bochum, who are playing their second consecutive season in Germany's second tier after relegation from the Bundesliga, currently sit mid-table having won once and lost twice from their opening three matches.
The move offers Patiño regular football away from the scrutiny of Riazor, where his signing two years ago as one of the club's marquee arrivals following promotion from Primera Federación had generated significant fanfare that never translated into a settled role in midfield.
