Coventry City are set to hold talks with Carl Rushworth’s representatives in the coming days as they look to secure the goalkeeper on a permanent deal after their Championship title-winning campaign.

Rushworth joined the Sky Blues on a season-long loan from Brighton last summer and has enjoyed an outstanding season, establishing himself as one of the division’s most reliable performers.

The 24-year-old featured in all 44 Championship matches as Coventry sealed promotion and returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2001.

talkSPORT understands Coventry will now meet Rushworth’s representatives to discuss a permanent transfer, with the club keen to keep him as they prepare for life in the top flight.

Retaining Rushworth would be seen as a major boost for Coventry, who are expected to strengthen across several positions ahead of their Premier League return.

However, the Sky Blues may face competition.

Other Premier League clubs are also believed to be monitoring the Brighton goalkeeper following his impressive campaign in the Midlands.

Rushworth has built a strong reputation through a series of successful loan spells in recent years, including previous stints with Hull City and Swansea City.

His consistency, shot-stopping ability and command of the penalty area have made him one of the standout goalkeepers outside the top division.

Despite joining Brighton in 2019, Rushworth has yet to make a senior appearance for the Seagulls, with his development instead coming through regular first-team football elsewhere.

That situation could now lead to a permanent exit if Brighton decide the time is right to cash in, particularly with growing interest from multiple clubs.

For Coventry, securing Rushworth early in the summer would represent a statement of intent as they aim to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League.

After playing such a central role in promotion, the goalkeeper has already proven his value to the club.

The coming days are now expected to be key in determining whether Rushworth’s future lies permanently at the CBS Arena or elsewhere in the Premier League.
