Christantus Uche has pulled on a Getafe shirt again after a season away, returning to training on Wednesday as the club's pre-season work enters its first stage in Oliva.

The Nigerian, who joined Getafe from Ceuta, was pictured by the club in training kit, all smiles after a difficult campaign on loan at Crystal Palace. The squad trained on the beach as part of the Oliva stage, continuing preparations for the new season.

Uche arrived at Getafe two years ago and quickly became one of LaLiga's breakout performers, turning into a fan favourite before financial pressures forced the club to sell him to the Premier League.

He spent the first half of last season back with Getafe, playing three league games for around 270 minutes with a goal and an assist, before making the move to Crystal Palace in the January window. His time in England was limited, with 14 appearances but no starts and just 159 minutes on the pitch, and no goals or assists in the league.

According to Spanish sources, Uche's loan at Crystal Palace has now ended and he has returned to Getafe, where he holds a contract until June 2028. With a salary that shouldn't cause problems under the club's wage limit, the midfielder will look to fight for his place again and, should no offer arrive that satisfies both player and club, he is set to stay in the capital.

Getafe have already brought in reinforcements in midfield this summer, adding depth to a position Uche once made his own, meaning his route back into the side is unlikely to be straightforward. His progress through pre-season, including the club's opening friendlies, is expected to shape how much of a role he plays once the new campaign gets under way.

Uche's spell in south-west London never quite matched the impact he made during his breakthrough year in Madrid, where his pace and physicality marked him out as one of the standout newcomers of that LaLiga season.

Getafe's coaching staff will now be watching closely to see whether he can rediscover that early form during the Oliva stage, with the club keen to have clarity on his future before the market closes at the end of the summer.
