Gomes' move is set to be completed on an initial fee of around £34m, rising to £38m with add-ons, as Unai Emery rebuilds his midfield following the departure of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United for £35m and a serious knee injury for Amadou Onana, sustained playing for Belgium at the World Cup. The 25-year-old made 41 appearances for Wolves last season as they were relegated, having joined from Flamengo in 2023 for around €18.7m and gone on to make 130 appearances for the Midlands club.
Atletico Madrid had also been in the frame for Gomes but were unable to get a deal over the line, clearing the way for Villa to step in.
Aston Villa are also working to complete a club-record move for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg, in a deal reported to be worth more than £50m, meaning Gomes and Manzambi could end up playing alongside each other or with Boubacar Kamara once both signings are finalised.
At the other end of the squad, Villa have confirmed that right-back Garcia has joined Getafe for the 2026-27 season on a season-long loan. The 23-year-old has made just 18 appearances since arriving from Levante in January 2025, including only one start last season, on the final day against Manchester City, when he was substituted at half-time.
Garcia was a peripheral figure as Villa won the Europa League, finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup fourth round, making just a single substitute appearance during the European campaign, and the move to Getafe is designed to give him regular first-team football in La Liga instead.
Villa's business at both ends of the squad reflects a busy summer under Unai Emery, with investment in central midfield running alongside a willingness to loan out fringe players who need first-team minutes elsewhere. Getafe, who have qualified for the Conference League, are expected to give Garcia far more playing time than he found at Villa Park.
