Inter Milan have confirmed a contract extension for head coach Cristian Chivu, who has signed a new deal running until June 2028.

The club announced the renewal through its official channels with the message "We continue writing our history together," with the agreement reached following a meeting on Thursday between Chivu's representatives and the club's management.

Chivu, who also played for Inter Milan between 2007 and 2014, won the Scudetto in his first season as head coach and has now signed terms that include a salary increase from around โ‚ฌ2m to approximately โ‚ฌ3m per season.

The extension follows a historic campaign in which Chivu guided Inter to a domestic double, winning the club's 21st Serie A title and 10th Coppa Italia, a feat that also brought him recognition as Serie A Coach of the Season for 2025-26.

Inter described Chivu's achievements as accomplishments "reachable only by those who have truly understood what pure and deep interismo means," adding that this is the same spirit that guided the club throughout the season and "will once again guide Cristian Chivu through to 2028."

Chivu's path to the role had run through Inter's youth set-up, where he managed the club's various junior categories before being handed the senior job, completing a rise that the club has framed as a natural continuation of his playing career on the Nerazzurri bench.

Pietro Chiodi, the agent who heads Chivu's management company and represents the coach's interests, marked the news with a lengthy post on Instagram.

"Today we reached a special milestone โ€” Cristian Chivu's renewal with Inter," Chiodi wrote.

"It is a moment that fills me with pride and emotion, especially because it comes at the end of an extraordinary season, culminated by winning the league and the Coppa Italia.

"Behind this result there is a long journey, made of years of work, sacrifices, shared challenges and many moments lived together."

Chiodi went on to describe the relationship between agent and coach as something that extends well beyond a professional arrangement.

"Years that built not just a solid professional relationship founded on great trust, but something even more precious," Chiodi wrote. "My satisfaction over this renewal is enormous, but what moves me most, looking back, is the friendship that has grown stronger over time."

He closed his post by reflecting on what he considers the true value of the achievement.

"Because successes pass, trophies remain in history, but authentic bonds are what truly give value to every journey," Chiodi wrote. "Thank you, Cristian, for the trust, for the shared path, and for everything that still awaits us."

The extension gives Inter long-term stability in the dugout as they prepare to build on a season that delivered the club's first domestic double in years and established Chivu as one of European football's most sought-after young coaches.
