Celta Vigo's sporting department, led by Marco Garcés, has reached an agreement in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for Faye to join Balaídos for the 2026-27 campaign, with only the final paperwork left to complete, according to Marca.
The Senegalese centre-back, who turns 22 in September, stands at 1.91m and is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2030, having signed a five-year deal there last summer.
Faye spent this past season on loan at Lorient in Ligue 1, making 19 appearances and starting regularly aside from a four-and-a-half-month spell out through injury in mid-season. Before his move to Germany, he had come through Häcken in Sweden, where Bayer Leverkusen paid around €3m to sign him after a loan spell at Örgryte.
The defender began his career at the Diambars academy in his native Senegal, one of the country's best-known footballing schools, before making the switch to Scandinavian football and then on to the Bundesliga.
He is expected to travel with the squad to Italy next week for Celta's mini pre-season tour, where Claudio Giráldez's side will face Sassuolo and Napoli. The head coach has personally backed the signing, which is designed to ease the workload on Marcos Alonso, who at 35 was Celta's most-used outfield player last season.
Adding a left-footed centre-back also gives Giráldez more balance at the back, with Faye able to play either as part of a back three or alongside a right-footed partner in a two-man defence.
Garcés' department is also close to finalising a back-up goalkeeper to complete the squad's summer business before the season opener against Osasuna at Balaídos on 16 August.
Celta's pre-season schedule continues through the Italy trip before the squad returns to Galicia for final preparations, with the club keen to have any new arrivals registered and available from the opening weeks of the campaign rather than easing them in gradually.
