Burnley have signed 16-year-old goalkeeper Johanan Lo-Tutala from Arsenal on a two-year scholarship deal after the prospect impressed during a trial at the club earlier this year.

Lo-Tutala, who had been with Arsenal since the age of nine, is already 6ft 7ins tall and will join Burnley's Under-18 setup as the club looks to develop his considerable potential.

The club also announced scholarships for a further nine academy players: defenders Glen Ilunga, Elijah Turahirwa, Darren Oshodi and Tadi Murwira, midfielders Sam Morley and Terry Leonard, winger Aiden Huggett, forward Archie Lorimer and striker Jas Mmakogu.

Lo-Tutala's physical attributes β€” already exceptional at 16 β€” make him an unusually prominent prospect for a teenager just entering the scholarship phase. Burnley's academy has previously produced players who have graduated to the first team, and the framework is in place for Lo-Tutala to develop in a structured environment over the coming two years.

The full list of scholars announced alongside him covers every position from defence through to forward, suggesting a deliberate effort to build a balanced youth squad across the intake. Whether Lo-Tutala develops into a professional goalkeeper will depend on his progression in the Under-18 environment over the next two seasons, but the early signs are clearly encouraging enough for Burnley to have moved decisively to sign him after his trial.

His debut season at Burnley will be one to watch.
