Brentford push ahead of Newcastle and Everton for Parma's Pellegrino

Brentford are readying a formal approach for Parma striker Mateo Pellegrino ahead of Newcastle and Everton, with the Italian club valuing the Argentine forward at €30 million and prepared to sell this summer.

According to Sport Parma, both Newcastle United and Everton have "gathered information" on the 24-year-old and are monitoring his situation, but Brentford have intensified their interest and could submit a formal offer first, potentially leaving the other two clubs behind unless they move with similar urgency.

Pellegrino joined Parma from Vélez Sarsfield in January 2025 for just €2 million and has since become one of Serie A's more reliable finishers, scoring 15 goals in all competitions since arriving, including 12 in the 2025-26 season alone — nine of them in the league, where his match-winning strike against Sassuolo on the final day helped secure Parma's survival. His overall career figures stand at 33 goals and six assists in 144 appearances, including spells at Platense and Estudiantes de la Plata.

Vélez retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause from the original deal, meaning any sale at €30 million would represent a substantial windfall shared between the two clubs. Parma CEO Federico Cherubini addressed the growing speculation directly.

"We know there are many interests, but we are in no hurry."

That stance — alongside Parma's defence-first system under head coach Carlos Cuesta, which has limited Pellegrino's service in the final third — has fuelled the sense that this summer represents the natural moment for the player to move on. Bologna, Como and Fiorentina have also made contact from within Serie A, but Parma's €30 million valuation is understood to be beyond what any of the three could realistically pay, leaving Premier League clubs with a clear financial advantage.

For Brentford, Everton and Newcastle, the appeal lies in a similar profile — a tall, physically imposing forward still only 24, with a left foot capable of combination play and a proven scoring record in one of Europe's most difficult leagues to score in. Tottenham Hotspur were also linked earlier in the year, while Nottingham Forest sent scouts to watch him without making an approach.

Everton and Newcastle's interest is well-established. Brentford's sudden acceleration suggests they intend not to be the third name in this race when the bidding actually starts.
