The fee eclipses the £1m Leicester City paid Fleetwood Town for Jamie Vardy back in 2012, and brings to an end a saga that had rumbled on for much of the summer after Boreham Wood twice rejected earlier bids, worth £1m and £1.5m respectively, before finally agreeing terms on Sunday morning. Abdulmalik, 23, is already in Sweden completing his medical.
The move caps a remarkable rise for a player Millwall released in 2024 and who then failed a trial at Portsmouth before joining Boreham Wood.
He scored 17 goals and added 10 assists last season as the Hertfordshire club reached the National League play-off final, scoring and setting up a goal in the showpiece at Wembley. His form drew interest from clubs including Peterborough United, though it was Djurgårdens, operating on a model of signing raw talent before selling on for profit, who ultimately won the race.
A former England Under-17 international, Abdulmalik forced the issue in the closing weeks of the saga, scoring in what proved to be his final Boreham Wood appearance in mid-August before making himself unavailable for selection in a bid to accelerate his exit.
"I'm ready for the next challenge. I'm ready to prove to myself and those around me that I'm capable of reaching the top," Abdulmalik said of the move.
He now joins a Djurgårdens side currently fifth in the Allsvenskan - which runs from April to November rather than the traditional European calendar - with two games in hand on most of their rivals and still in contention to secure European qualification this season.
The Swedish club have built a reputation for developing raw talent from lower leagues before selling on at a significant profit, having previously nurtured players who went on to command far bigger fees elsewhere in Europe.
For Boreham Wood, the sale represents a transformative sum for a fifth-tier club, offering financial security well beyond what National League football typically generates and vindicating a summer spent holding out against repeated bids rather than accepting an early, lower offer.
