Bologna have confirmed the appointment of Domenico Tedesco as their new head coach on a contract running until June 2028, with an option to extend by a further year.

The 40-year-old takes over following the departure of Vincenzo Italiano, who left after one season in charge and is now being linked with a move to Beşiktaş.

Tedesco brings extensive experience across four major European leagues. Born in Rossano, Calabria, he began his coaching career in the youth academies of VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim before taking charge of senior football at Erzgebirge Aue.

He subsequently managed Schalke 04, where he guided the club to second place in the Bundesliga and the Champions League last 16; Spartak Moscow, where he finished as league runners-up; RB Leipzig, where he won the DFB-Pokal in 2021-22 and finished fourth in the Bundesliga; the Belgium national team, whom he led through a difficult transitional period; and Fenerbahçe, where he won the Turkish Super Cup in 2025.

Bologna said in their official statement: "He has won two trophies as a coach: the DFL Pokal with RB Leipzig in 2021/22 and the Turkish Super Cup with Fenerbahçe in 2025. He has coached in both the Champions League and Europa League."

The appointment signals Bologna's ambition to stabilise and build on a period of genuine progress for the club. Tedesco will be tasked with establishing a clear identity and delivering results in the coming seasons.
