Newcastle United are understood to have offered in the region of £46m, while Tottenham are said to be holding out for closer to £60m to sanction his exit, according to earlier reports — though the club's precise valuation has not been confirmed independently.
The rejection of Newcastle's bid reportedly came as a surprise within Bergvall's camp, with the player growing frustrated at the club's approach to his transfer request more broadly.
One of the biggest sources of frustration is said to be a lack of contact from De Zerbi. According to The Standard, the Italian head coach has not spoken to Bergvall at any point over the summer, either during the World Cup or since Sweden's exit from the tournament — something that has reportedly reinforced Bergvall's belief that he does not feature in De Zerbi's plans.
Bergvall made 33 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham last season but started just once after De Zerbi's arrival in March, going on to make only fleeting appearances in the closing weeks of the campaign as Spurs narrowly avoided relegation. His frustration has been compounded since, with Tottenham investing heavily in central midfield this summer by signing both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, further squeezing the Swede's route into the team.
