Bayern Munich secure future with long-term Bärtl deal

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Jannis Bärtl has signed a long-term contract, underlining the club’s commitment to developing one of their most promising young goalkeepers.

The 19-year-old has spent almost his entire football education within Bayern Munich’s academy system, with only a brief interruption during a loan spell at Karlsruher SC.

Bärtl has been part of the club’s youth setup for nearly 12 years and continues to progress through the pathway towards senior football. Last season, the goalkeeper made 20 appearances for Bayern’s reserve side in the Regionalliga, establishing himself as a regular starter. He was also included in the first-team matchday squad on two occasions, reflecting his growing involvement around the senior setup.

Bayern’s head of youth development Michael Wiesinger praised Bärtl’s consistency and development within the club structure.

“Jannis has completed almost his entire goalkeeper education at Bayern, apart from his time at KSC. He is a true homegrown player. Last season he delivered consistent performances for the amateurs and was a regular presence in first-team training. We are happy with his development and pleased he wants to continue his next steps with us,” said Wiesinger.

The extension continues Bayern’s strategy of securing emerging talent from within their academy before they reach full senior status. Bärtl’s performances for the second team have marked him out as one of the more reliable young goalkeepers in the system, particularly in a demanding regional competition.

His involvement with the first team training group last season also suggested growing trust from the senior coaching staff. While he is not yet expected to challenge for a regular Bundesliga role, the new deal ensures Bayern retain control of his development during a key stage of his career progression.

The club views continuity within its academy pathway as an important part of long-term squad planning, particularly in specialist positions such as goalkeeper. For Bärtl, the contract represents recognition of steady progress rather than a sudden breakthrough, but it places him firmly within Bayern’s future plans.

Further opportunities with the first team are expected to follow if his development continues on its current trajectory.

Bayern remain focused on blending experienced senior players with academy graduates, and Bärtl now joins the group of young prospects being monitored closely by the club’s coaching staff.
