Both Eberl and Dreesen extended their own contracts through to 2029 earlier this month, and the club had said publicly all along that Freund's turn would come once those two deals were finalised.
Speaking after Bayern Munich's 5-0 Champions League win over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday, chief executive Dreesen confirmed the process was now moving forward.
"We, or rather the supervisory board, have always said that we wanted to extend the contracts of the two board members first. And that we would then of course talk to Christoph, and we are doing that. That's why I'm very hopeful that we'll resolve this open matter in the short term," Dreesen said.
Sporting director Eberl, whose own deal was extended on the same terms as Dreesen's, echoed the sentiment after the rout.
"I know what's going to happen. Nobody needs to worry," Eberl said.
Freund's current contract runs until 2027, though unlike Eberl and Dreesen his renewal falls under the remit of the executive board rather than the supervisory board. He joined Bayern from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and has overseen a revamp of the club's academy and scouting network, working closely alongside head coach Vincent Kompany, with whom he is understood to have an excellent rapport.
Eberl also used the post-match press conference to firmly deny recent reports of tension between himself and Freund.
"That's bullshit. That's a story pulled out of thin air that I can't understand. I don't know where it comes from. Christoph and I have been working together at Bayern for two and a half years, and as far as I can tell, we work together very well. Everyone has clear responsibilities, and it's fun and enjoyable," Eberl said.
Reports earlier in the summer had suggested a supposedly strained relationship between the pair could split Bayern's leadership into rival camps, claims Freund himself had already publicly rejected. Both Eberl and Dreesen have overseen a period of relative stability at the Allianz Arena, following the club's back-to-back Bundesliga titles and last season's DFB-Pokal triumph.
