Mario Basler believes Harry Kane is already more important to Bayern Munich than Robert Lewandowski was.

The former Bayern winger says Kane’s all-round game sets him apart from previous strikers at the club.

“With Müller he is not really comparable, but with Lewandowski perhaps a little,” Basler told Football Presse.

“He rarely gets injured, he always scores his goals. But he is even more of a team player than Lewandowski.”

Basler suggested Lewandowski could at times be single-minded as a striker.

“Lewandowski was sometimes very selfish. Harry Kane is not like that.”

“Kane plays for the team. He drops into midfield, distributes the ball well.”

Basler even went a step further.

“I believe he is even a bit more important for Bayern than Lewandowski was.”

“He contributes more to the team. He also works harder defensively, and Lewandowski did not always do that.”

Despite speculation around a release clause in Kane’s contract, Basler hopes the England captain stays put.

“I hope he does not leave Bayern. I think he knows exactly what he has there.”

“At his age, does he really need another move? I don’t think so. I hope he stays at Bayern until he ends his career.”
