Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday that Bardghji has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, an injury that will require surgery and rule him out for the first half of the season at minimum. The club has not given an official recovery timetable, though the operation is expected to be followed by a rehabilitation period of between six and eight months.
The 20-year-old Swede suffered the injury during Monday's training session, in a cruel twist given Barcelona had deliberately rested him from Sunday's tournament fixtures in Udine to protect him from exactly this kind of setback; midfielder Marc Casadó was held back for the same reason.
It is the second time Bardghji has torn the ACL in the same knee, having suffered an almost identical injury while at FC Copenhagen in May 2024 that kept him out for close to a year.
The timing compounds the blow. Hansi Flick had told Bardghji last week that regular minutes would be hard to come by this season following the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, and the winger was already fielding interest from clubs willing to take him on loan, with Barcelona hoping to bank a fee and retain a buy-back option for the future.
That deal is now off the table entirely, with Bardghji facing months of rehabilitation instead. He made 28 appearances in all competitions last season under Flick, scoring twice and adding four assists.
Barcelona's other significant business this week concerns the opposite kind of departure. According to Fabrizio Romano, Ferran Torres is not expected to train with the squad on Wednesday as talks over his move to Paris Saint-Germain reach their final stages, with all parties agreeing to keep him away from the group for a day or two while PSG finalise a deal worth around €50 million.
The transfer is expected to be completed once PSG's UEFA Super Cup fixture against Aston Villa is out of the way.
Torres, who scored the winning goal in Spain's World Cup final victory this summer, has one year left on his Barcelona contract, a factor PSG have used to negotiate what would represent a discounted fee for a player they believe would otherwise cost significantly more.
The 26-year-old is set to link up with Luis Enrique's squad in Paris once the paperwork is finalised, bringing his four-year spell at Camp Nou to a close.
