Barcelona are ready to make a genuine move for Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi, viewing the French forward as their leading fallback option should the club's pursuit of Julian Alvarez continue to stall.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona's interest, first revealed several weeks ago, remains real, with Kroupi considered the club's principal alternative to Alvarez. Given how complicated the Argentine's situation has become at Atletico Madrid, Barcelona could pivot towards the Bournemouth forward relatively quickly if that pursuit continues to drag.

Bournemouth's official position remains that they want to keep the 20-year-old and even extend his contract, which currently runs until 2030, but the scale of interest from elsewhere in Europe means the Cherries are unlikely to stand entirely firm if the offers keep coming.

Tottenham currently represent the most concrete threat to that stance, prepared to submit an offer worth โ‚ฌ94million in an attempt to leapfrog their rivals for the France Under-21 international, who has emerged as one of the players English football expects to feed into the national team's already formidable attacking pool over the coming years.

Kroupi scored 13 goals in his debut Premier League season after joining Bournemouth from Lorient for around ยฃ10million in February 2025, form that has made him one of the most sought-after young forwards in the game barely 18 months after his move to England.

Arsenal have also registered firm interest but are waiting to make progress on other transfer targets first, while Paris Saint-Germain complete the list of major suitors circling the player.

Should Tottenham fail to get their move over the line in the coming days, or should Barcelona's patience with the Alvarez saga finally run out, Kroupi's importance in this summer's market looks set only to grow, with Bournemouth increasingly likely to find themselves fielding serious offers regardless of their stated intention to keep hold of one of the Premier League's breakout stars from last season.
