The 28-year-old France international, who started the 2022 World Cup final as his country finished runners-up, arrives with three seasons of Premier League experience behind him, having featured for Chelsea, Aston Villa and West Ham United, and 22 Champions League and Europa League appearances to his name, many of them earned during his time at Monaco.
Chairman Steve Parish welcomed the move: "We are pleased [to] welcome a defender of Axel's experience and calibre to Palace for the season. I look forward to seeing him in action at Selhurst Park."
Asked what specifically appealed to him about the move, speaking to Palace TV for the first time, Disasi pointed to the feel of the club as much as anything concrete.
"More just like a feeling, a good atmosphere. I think as well the fact that the manager is French helps a lot. The club, the past two or three years, has been going in a very good direction, so I think it was the right place for me to keep going.
"When we see the fact that the club has won three trophies in the last two years, I think that we are all ambitious and we take this competition [the Europa League] very seriously. We're going to work every day to go as far as possible."
He also has fond memories of European competition from his time in France.
"I had a great time in the Europa League with Monaco too. I scored some good goals and played against great teams as well. I'm very excited as well to play again in this competition because I think it's a really good competition with very tough opponents, so I'm very excited about this," he said.
Disasi could make his Palace debut as soon as Friday, when the Eagles host Manchester City in their first home match of the season. He has already experienced Selhurst Park from the away dressing room with all three of his previous Premier League clubs.
"What comes to my mind first is these games I played with Chelsea, in my first year in England. They're my first memories about the stadium. I know that it's very tough to play against Palace when they're at home. The fans are pushing very, very hard — so I'm looking forward to being on the other side now," he said.
