Jackson's goal was one of three for Aston Villa in Belgium, part of a 3-2 win at Club Brugge that gave Unai Emery's side their first victory of the season after taking just a single point from their opening three Premier League matches. Speaking to UEFA after the match, the summer signing from Chelsea reflected on the significance of getting off the mark in Villa colours.
"It means a lot. I'm really happy to be here together with the team, the coach and the staff. Hopefully many more goals will come," Jackson said.
The striker made clear he is already looking only forward, regardless of Villa's stuttering domestic form heading into the match.
"Every game is different. We don't care about the past, we only focus on the next one. Like every other team, we have our ambitions," he said.
Jackson struck a measured tone about the scale of the task still ahead of Villa this season, both in the Premier League and in a Champions League campaign that has started with three points.
"We know it's a long journey, so we just take it step by step and try to win every game," he said. The result offered timely momentum for Villa following a difficult start domestically, and Jackson's goal, his first in Villa colours since his summer move, will add to the growing sense that the club's new-look attack is beginning to click into gear after a slow start to the campaign.
Jackson arrived at Villa Park this summer in a club-record deal from Chelsea, having spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich after initially joining the London club from Villarreal in 2023.
He joins a heavily reshaped Villa forward line that has undergone significant turnover since last season's Europa League triumph, with the club needing his goals to help offset the departures of key attacking players from the squad that reached the latter stages of Europe's second-tier competition.
His first Villa goal arriving in the Champions League rather than the Premier League will nonetheless offer encouragement that the goals will follow domestically before long, particularly with Saturday's home fixture against Nottingham Forest offering the next opportunity to build on the momentum generated in Belgium.
