Miguel Martin Talavera on SER Deportivos believes a swap built around Gyokeres represents the most realistic path to a deal, given it would hand Atletico Madrid an instant replacement for Alvarez alongside a significant fee.
"It's the only route Atletico Madrid could realistically consider," he said, adding that while the club's priority remains keeping hold of Alvarez, an offer combining Gyokeres with cash is the option carrying the most momentum if the striker ultimately forces through an exit.
Alvarez has become the transfer saga of the summer, having publicly asked to leave the club amid Barcelona's continued interest in signing him, telling reporters he believes a transfer would be "best for everyone."
Atletico, however, have repeatedly ruled out selling to Barcelona, insisting the World Cup winner remains central to Diego Simeone's plans and rejecting bids of €100m, €150m and €200m from the Catalan club in recent weeks.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has acknowledged that Alvarez "clearly wants a change of scenery" and that his club stands ready to accommodate him, but Atletico's stance is that they will not strengthen a direct La Liga rival regardless of the fee on offer, given what the club feels has been a year of persistent pressure from Barcelona over the player.
Arsenal's ability to offer Gyokeres as an immediate like-for-like replacement, rather than simply cash, is understood to be what sets their interest apart from Barcelona's in Atletico's eyes.
The Alvarez situation sits alongside a broader summer of incomings and outgoings at the Metropolitano.
Atletico are working to complete the signing of Kang-in Lee, and are simultaneously looking at ways to fund further business through departures. Thiago Almada is considered the most likely to leave first, with Flamengo trying to convince the Argentine to move to Brazil, needing only his final agreement.
Almada had previously held the option of returning to River Plate, though that route now appears to be opening up instead for Angel Correa, expected to arrive from Tigres. The future of Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez also remains uncertain, while several academy prospects, including Julio Diaz, are attracting interest from elsewhere in Spain's top flight.
