Arsenal are undergoing an overhaul of their backroom staff after winning the Premier League title, with lead performance coach Sam Wilson set to leave for a European club and rehabilitation specialist Eneko Angulo expected to join from Real Betis.

Wilson, who joined Arsenal in 2014 and has been part of the first-team setup for the past seven years, is strongly linked with a move to Juventus.

Former Arsenal head of performance Darren Burgess now serves as director of performance in Turin, a connection understood to have opened the door for Wilson's appointment. Sources say the move is his own decision โ€” he could have remained at the club but is leaving to take on a more senior role elsewhere.

His departure is part of a broader reshuffle that also saw head of sports medicine Dr Zafar Iqbal leave the club. Iqbal, who previously worked at Crystal Palace and Liverpool, was informed of the change in the aftermath of Arsenal's Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. The process of finding his replacement is under way.

Arsenal have been conducting a review of their medical department, with Mikel Arteta's long-term friend Joaquin Acedo consulting for the club last season. The physio has known Arteta since his playing days at Everton.

The reshuffle also brings in fresh expertise. Angulo posted an emotional farewell on social media after leaving Real Betis following 12 years at the club at the end of this month, with his anticipated appointment at Arsenal understood to be part of the club's push to strengthen their medical and performance structure.

Despite lifting silverware, Arsenal suffered a number of injuries last season, and the review of their support departments reflects a desire to address that before the new campaign begins.

The scale of the changes underlines how seriously Arsenal are treating their preparation for the new season.
