Speaking to Sky Sport as the new season approaches, the head coach pushed back against the growing clamour around the club for fresh reinforcements, insisting he'd rather get things right than rush into deals.
"We're thinking it through. Of course in football you don't have time, but we want to do things the right way. And if you look at our past, we've made mistakes sometimes," he said.
"We won't make them again. I'm very happy with the squad. We'll be strong against Torino with this group."
He added that his approach to squad-building wasn't purely about demanding new arrivals. "I don't know what will happen in the market, but I certainly won't go asking for more signings after a defeat. I'm very satisfied with what I have, we just need to improve.
"The nice thing about being a coach isn't only asking for more players. I asked for two (Ramos and Gila) and the club did everything it could to sign them in a short space of time. We really do have good players, including the young ones, and we'll be ready for the opening match."
Amorim also confirmed that squad trims are imminent given the depth at his disposal.
"We'll make some decisions about the players we have here. These weeks of work have been really positive, but we have a big squad. We have to choose some players and we'll make that decision this week."
That trimming process is expected to focus heavily on central midfield, where AC Milan are considered to have a numerical surplus. According to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto, Samuele Ricci and Youssouf Fofana are both players who could leave Milanello with the right offer.
"There are other players who could leave Milan with the right offer, let's give you two names: one is Ricci, with Atalanta always keeping a close eye on him; the other is Fofana. These two are potentially on the market. Also keep an eye on the defence, one piece there could leave too," Moretto said.
Ricci, who joined from Torino for around €23m last summer, has struggled to convince under Amorim's preferred double pivot, while any funds raised from his and Fofana's departures would likely be reinvested in positions the head coach considers more pressing.
