Borussia Dortmund are working to prevent Karim Adeyemi from running down his contract and leaving for nothing, with Al Ahli emerging as a potential buyer for the Germany international as the German club weigh their options ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Adeyemi, 24, is contracted to Dortmund until 2027, leaving the club facing a decision โ€” either extend the deal or sell this summer. With a renewal appearing unlikely, a sale is now considered the more probable outcome.

According to the Swiss edition of Sky Sport, Al Ahli are considering Adeyemi as a potential replacement for Riyad Mahrez, whose future at the Saudi club remains unclear. If Mahrez departs, the report indicates Al Ahli would take concrete steps toward signing Adeyemi.

Borussia Dortmund are seeking around โ‚ฌ50m for the winger, who is also said to be on Aston Villa's radar. The German international has earned 11 caps for Germany and would command a significant fee that Dortmund are determined to extract rather than allowing him to leave without compensation next summer.

Whether Adeyemi would welcome a move to Saudi Arabia represents the key uncertainty. From a sporting perspective it would represent a step down, though financially it would be considerably more lucrative than remaining in the Bundesliga.

Al Ahli's potential offer is contingent on the Mahrez situation being resolved first, which adds an element of uncertainty to the timeline. If Mahrez remains, the need for Adeyemi diminishes. If he leaves, the club would move quickly.

Aston Villa's interest suggests there is Premier League appetite for Adeyemi as well. Given Dortmund's desire to recoup a significant fee rather than lose him for free, they may find that domestic competition between English clubs and Saudi money ultimately works in their favour in extracting close to their โ‚ฌ50m asking price.
