Cagliari claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Frosinone at the Unipol Domus, with Michel Adopo’s strike giving the Sardinians three valuable points.

Frosinone were left frustrated after failing to turn their chances into an equaliser. Massimiliano Alvini felt his players had not imposed themselves with enough conviction.

“We tried everything, but we lost because we did not attack the game with the aggression that we usually know how to show,” the Frosinone coach told DAZN. “Credit to Cagliari, who won, and now we get back to work.”

Alvini believed his side had opportunities to take something from the match, but regretted that they would go into the break without the result they wanted.

“We had chances to equalise. The goal that could have sent us into the break in a fantastic situation never came,” he said. “Losing makes us understand that there were things we could have done differently at the beginning. It is disappointing, but there is work to do.”

Pisacane was delighted with a victory that carried additional emotional significance, arriving on the birthday of Cagliari legend Gigi Riva.

“Some victories are worth three points, while others also carry an important emotional meaning. We are extremely happy to have won on Gigi Riva’s birthday,” he said. “I think today we managed to play the match we had prepared. I am pleased with the team and with all the young players who made an important contribution.”

Adopo was central to the celebrations, and Pisacane was particularly moved by the midfielder dedicating his goal to him.

“Adopo is fundamental to this group, to me and to my staff. Today he almost moved me when he dedicated the goal to me,” he said. “I will keep encouraging him to give his maximum, and I hope this goal is the first of many.”

Pisacane praised young starter Grandu, selected after the setback to Winks. He said the side had needed to keep its lines compact and prevent Frosinone from exploiting transitions during the opening stages.

“Grandu is a boy I have known for many years, and today he was a very sweet positive,” Pisacane said. “There may have been some scepticism about him starting, but every decision I make is because I have thought carefully about how to manage things.”

He added: “The group comes before the individual. Whoever plays has to be ready to respond.”

Alvini insisted the defeat should not erase his side’s progress, while acknowledging that missed opportunities had proved costly.

“Whoever played gave everything. These are episodes, and sometimes they decide matches. We move forward.”
