The Portuguese international was linked with Milan during the summer, but a move did not materialise. Reports now suggest the club could make another attempt, with a potential valuation of around €40 million making the structure of any deal an important consideration.
Inácio’s familiarity with Amorim’s football is one factor behind the continued interest. The defender has been admired for his ability to contribute in possession as well as his work without the ball, qualities that would suit a side looking to build attacks from the back.
Milan’s interest reflects a wider concern about depth in central defence. Mario Gila has become an important part of the defensive unit, but the club are understood to want another option capable of providing reliable cover and competing for a regular place.
Ghilardi offers another option
Inácio is not the only name being discussed. According to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, AC Milan are also monitoring Daniele Ghilardi, the AS Roma defender who has had limited playing time so far this season.
Ghilardi, born in 2003, joined Roma from Hellas Verona in 2025. His opportunities have been restricted amid competition for places, and Milan could view the prospect of a clearer route to first-team football as an attraction.
The Italian would represent a different kind of investment from Inácio. While the Sporting defender is an established Portugal international and could command a significant fee, Ghilardi offers a younger domestic option who already has experience in Serie A.
Any move would depend on Roma’s willingness to negotiate and the player’s position within their plans. His current lack of regular minutes may make the situation worth monitoring, but there is no indication that a deal has been agreed.
Defensive reinforcement remains the priority
Milan’s January planning is taking shape around the need to improve the depth and consistency of their back line. Inácio remains a prominent target, but the club appear to be assessing alternatives rather than relying on a single negotiation.
The coming weeks should provide a clearer picture of which profile best fits the budget and the squad’s needs. For now, both Inácio and Ghilardi are names to watch, with Milan’s defensive recruitment likely to be one of the main stories of their winter window.
