Spain forward Lamine Yamal and head coach Luis de la Fuente spoke to the press after their World Cup last-32 victory over Austria.

Yamal reflected on his own display, admitting he was disappointed not to have scored.

"Very happy, we came off thinking we wanted to go to Dallas and play the last 16. I'm leaving with that feeling. Very happy for the team."

He was asked about the knockout nature of the tournament from this point on.

"If you lose, you go home. Now to rest and think about the next match. I'm already at 100% and ready."

Pressed again on the missing goal, he stayed relaxed about it.

"For sure, but very happy. But as long as we're winning, that's what matters. I'm very grateful for the affection. It helps me a lot."

He spoke about what winning the World Cup would mean to him.

"It's the biggest thing there is, there's nothing better than a World Cup. When a child dreams, they dream of this. To go through to the next round and fulfil my dream: winning the World Cup with Spain."

He addressed Spain's growing belief.

"We have to keep growing, but we're not afraid of anyone. Obviously I'm very happy, but the game finished and I'm very happy for the team."

He was also asked about a potential meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo in the next round.

"It doesn't matter to me, Croatia or Portugal. It would be an honour to play against him, but it doesn't matter."

Head coach Luis de la Fuente appeared calm in the press room at SoFi Stadium, speaking with pride about the team's progress.

Asked whether this was the breakthrough performance he had hoped for, De la Fuente praised goalkeeper Unai Simón in particular.

"I have many reasons to be happy today. The win is hugely important. The performance was outstanding. I'm especially happy for Unai, because I've known him since he was a kid, and his record is a reward. We're doing very well, and we're in the process. But we'll have to be better.

"Our spirit is to keep improving, from the perspective that this team hasn't reached its limit yet. We're ambitious, insatiable in sporting terms."

He praised Marc Cucurella's performance.

"Marc is infallible with us, like clockwork. He reads the game very well, he's a top-level player. And he still has a long way to go."

De la Fuente addressed the team's overall progression through the tournament.

"Every match is different, they've all had extreme difficulty. Austria would have caused us problems if we hadn't done things well. But I'm also happy with the Uruguay match, because that's the one that got us here. I'm very lucky to manage these wonderful footballers. The growth is endless.

"We need to improve defensively. We didn't quite adjust the high press enough, at least until the first break. We've corrected things, but it's about always improving. We can improve our efficiency percentage. And the next opponent will be tougher, which will force us to redouble our efforts."

Asked about Rodri and Pedri, De la Fuente was full of praise.

"Rodrigo, for me, is having an exceptional World Cup. He's pressed, he's arrived in the box, he's shot. And Pedri put in another masterclass. I'm delighted with what he offers. We need everyone. That way, we can think about going far. But we have to keep improving within a process we're living with complete normality."

He also addressed his relationship with Unai Simón.

"We've been together since Greece, where we won an Under-19 European Championship. I know his family and I'd say the relationship is almost that, like family. It's an honour to manage him and he now has worldwide recognition. I'm lucky to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Sorry, one of three of the best."
