Deportivo La Coruña's search for a new centre-forward looks set to end with one of LaLiga's most recognisable strikers, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang closing in on a move to Riazor.

The Galician club have been tracking a number nine since the end of last season, and according to Riazor.org and French outlet Foot Mercato, a deal with Olympique de Marseille worth around €1.5m is now in its final stages.

Aubameyang, 37, is under contract at Marseille until 2027 but has already left the club's Commanderie training base and is not due to travel with the squad on their pre-season tour, a strong indication that his exit is close.

The Gabon international scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists last season as he carried Marseille's attack through a lengthy injury absence for Amine Gouiri, with ten of those goals coming in Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League. Across a career spanning Saint-Étienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and Marseille, he has scored more than 400 goals as a professional, including 11 in LaLiga during a brief spell at Barcelona in 2022.

A move to Deportivo La Coruna would see Aubameyang link up with Bil Nsongo and Zakaria Eddahchouri in attack as the club prepares for its return to the top flight.

Sporting director Fernando Soriano said this week that three further signings were still expected before the window closes, with Aubameyang set to become the club's sixth arrival of the summer following the additions of Leo Román, Asp Jensen, Teun Gijselhart, Bright Ede and Lorenzo Amatucci.

Reports in Spain suggest Aubameyang, who is also said to have interest from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Serie A clubs, has prioritised the move to Galicia. Deportivo will hope to have the deal finalised in time for him to join the group's remaining pre-season work before the new LaLiga campaign gets under way.

Aubameyang's arrival would give Antonio Hidalgo a proven finisher to lead the line as Deportivo adjust back to Primera División football after eight years away. His experience, allied to a trophy haul including the FA Cup, the DFB-Pokal and LaLiga itself, is seen at Riazor as exactly the profile needed to help the newly promoted side avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
