The 26-year-old had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal, with talks between the two parties deadlocked for well over a year amid reported disagreements over image rights. The impasse was broken after Real returned to the table with improved terms on Wednesday, in a meeting attended by Vinicius's representatives and the club's director general, José Ángel Sánchez.
The Brazilian is understood to have been appreciative of the fresh offer, which ESPN reports was worth significantly more than the roughly €22m-a-year package Real had previously proposed.
Real Madrid confirmed the extension in a Thursday statement, announcing terms that "links him to the club until June 30, 2032." Vinicius marked the news on Instagram, writing: "Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short... Six more years, and then forever."
Since joining from Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has made 375 appearances for Real, scoring 128 goals and winning 14 trophies, including two Champions League titles, three LaLiga crowns and a Copa del Rey. He was named The Best FIFA Men's Player in 2024 and was named Champions League Player of the Season for 2023-24, having scored in Real's most recent two European Cup final wins, in Paris in 2022 and London in 2024.
Arsenal, the Premier League champions, had been monitoring Vinicius's situation closely and would reportedly have accelerated their interest had he turned down Real's terms. The Gunners must now look elsewhere for a left-sided forward. Vinicius will link up with José Mourinho, who returned for a second spell as Real head coach in June and was said to have taken a hands-on role in persuading the winger to commit his long-term future to the club.
The club also praised his impact over the past eight seasons, describing him as central to one of the most successful eras in its history.
Real and Vinicius's camp had been in negotiations over a fresh deal for around 18 months, with the situation tracing back to the aftermath of last year's Club World Cup. The winger returned to Valdebebas on Monday for his first pre-season session following Brazil's World Cup campaign, and has previously described Real as the club of his "dreams".
He has also scored 13 goals in 54 caps for Brazil, and his new deal is understood to represent a significant increase on the roughly €17.5m a year he was earning in the final season of his previous contract, having originally sought a package closer to €30m annually.
