The Granada-born midfielder spent last season on loan at Córdoba, where he was a regular starter, and now steps up to the top flight having made his professional debut for Villarreal under Marcelino two seasons ago.
Requena began his senior career with Villarreal's B side at just 19, making his debut in the final round of the league season, before going on to play 38 matches in Segunda under Miguel Álvarez the following year. His loan to Levante continues Villarreal's pattern of sending academy graduates out for senior experience before deciding on their long-term futures at the club.
The move also resolves another of the situations Villarreal needed to address following last season's loan spells, with several academy products having since departed the club on permanent deals. Ramón Terrats, Thiago Ojeda and Víctor Moreno all left permanently over the summer, joining Getafe, Valladolid and Tenerife respectively, as Villarreal continued to trim a squad that had sent numerous young players out on loan the previous season.
Requena's move to Levante gives him the chance to establish himself in the top flight while still technically remaining a Villarreal player, a structure the Yellow Submarine have increasingly favoured for academy graduates not quite ready to break into the first-team picture at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Should he impress at Levante, Villarreal would retain the option of recalling him or negotiating a permanent departure at the end of the loan, depending on how his season develops in Valencia.
The deal represents a logical next step for a player who has steadily progressed through Villarreal's pathway system, from breaking into the B team as a teenager to a full Segunda campaign and now a shot at regular first-team football in LaLiga.
Levante, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, will hope Requena's technical qualities in midfield can add depth to a squad still being reshaped ahead of the new campaign, with the loan market continuing to play a significant role in how both clubs manage their younger talent this summer.
