The 23-year-old winger, who arrived from Osasuna as Andoni Iraola's first signing after Liverpool beat Newcastle United to his signature, spoke to As about what has struck him most in his first weeks at Anfield.
"What has surprised me most, by a long way, is the physical level of all the teams. In Spain the game is more positional and tactical and here it's continuous end-to-end. The matches are crazier and all the teams have players who are very powerful physically."
Muñoz knows two of Spain's biggest academies from the inside. He joined Barcelona's La Masia at 11 and moved to Real Madrid's youth system in 2023, making his LaLiga debut under Xabi Alonso in May 2025 before leaving for Osasuna that summer.
Asked about those two spells, he said:
"Both are impressive and I've been able to take the best from each. As you say, at Barça I was very small, but it allowed me to learn the associative work and add to my game the methodology and the DNA they try to instil in all their homegrown players.
"At Madrid it's a different type of game, more direct, and that suited me well because of my qualities. I'm grateful to have been at both. At the beginning, when you find yourself surrounded by team-mates of such quality, you notice that you need to toughen up and accumulate experience, above all when there's a jump in category and you arrive at a team like Madrid."
He was just as quick when it came to the Ballon d'Or. Muñoz scored on his Spain debut against Serbia in March and was part of the squad that won the World Cup, so his choice is a national-team colleague: Lamine Yamal, who said in a recent interview with Movistar's Universo Valdano that he deserves the award this year.
"I would give it to Lamine. He's a team-mate of mine in the national team and I think he has earned the right to win it. Any player who wins it will deserve it, but my choice would be Lamine."
Yamal is one of the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, as is Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé, the man he said he had beaten in every direct duel. The winner is due to be announced in London on 26 October.
For Muñoz, meanwhile, the priority is adapting to a league he finds more physical and more end-to-end than LaLiga, at a Liverpool side rebuilding after a disappointing 2025-26 season and the departure of Mohamed Salah.
