Martínez, one of Carlos Corberán's priority targets throughout the summer, has signed a five-year contract running to June 2031 after a deal structured around €5m in guaranteed payments, a further €1m in variables and a 10% sell-on clause for Girona.
The Catalan defender's versatility was central to Valencia's interest — alongside his natural right-back role, he can also play centre-back — and it was an injury to Justin de Haas, compounding an already-known issue with José Copete and doubts over Mouctar Diakhaby's form, that finally pushed the club to make their move.
Van Oevelen's arrival addresses a different need, adding competition to Stole Dimitrievski in goal after a summer in which the Dutchman's situation shifted repeatedly. Valencia's interest had emerged months earlier, but Van Oevelen ultimately signed for Ipswich Town before the English club agreed to loan him out to Mestalla.
Club goalkeeping great Andrés Palop welcomed him via video message at his presentation: "Mestalla and its supporters are very demanding, I'm sure you're going to help the team achieve its goals."
Van Oevelen described the process as unusual but said he had no regrets.
"It's been a very strange, long summer. But I'm happy to be here. Ipswich Town were indeed the club that signed me, but I'm very happy to be here at Valencia," he said. Asked how the club convinced him despite the likelihood of limited game time behind Dimitrievski, he pointed to positive early conversations.
"I had several meetings with the goalkeeping coach, his attitude was very positive, as were my teammates and the players, and now it's my turn to prove it, work hard and give everything," he said.
On his own game, Van Oevelen described a well-rounded profile.
"I like to work hard, I also encourage my teammates from the back, I consider myself a goalkeeper who's good with his feet, I'm also good in the air and in building play from the back. That's roughly how I see myself," he said.
Asked directly whether he sees his stay at Valencia as circumstantial or longer-term, he was non-committal: "I don't know what will happen in the future. We'll see."
On the atmosphere at Mestalla, he was unreserved in his praise.
"The stadium is incredible, from a great club, and so is the fans' atmosphere. A lot of noise, which I liked. It's normal that when points slip away there are these kinds of reactions, and we're here to work and start improving from next Sunday," he said.
