Thomas Tuchel has explained Cole Palmer's omission from England's November squad, saying the Chelsea forward “misses too many opportunities to impress”.

Palmer, 24, has again been left out after dropping out of the squad for the early autumn matches. England face Croatia at Wembley on Thursday, November 12, before travelling to Madrid to meet Spain on Sunday, November 15.

Tuchel has instead selected Fulham's Josh King and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham for their first senior England call-ups. Both are attacking midfielders, although Tuchel indicated that King could be used in a variety of roles.

“We have enough number 10s and we stick to the guys who were in the previous camp because we were happy with the two and a half weeks we had together,” the England manager said.

“We have Josh King as a new player in there, but I want to see him on both wings. He is kind of an extra player and he can play all four positions.

“I guess everyone is desperate to play for England and Cole is no exception.

“We are speaking now about a player that is not in camp. It counts when you are in camp and I just said last time that he misses too many opportunities to impress.”

The comments underline Tuchel's decision to retain the players who featured in the previous gathering rather than bring Chelsea midfielder Palmer back into the group. The manager also stressed that opportunities to make an impression come through involvement with the national team, rather than reputation alone.

Jobe Bellingham's selection means he joins his older brother Jude in the squad. The pair could become the first brothers to feature together in an England line-up since Gary and Phil Neville.
