Inter Milan sealed the Serie A title with a 2-0 win over Parma on 3 May, then claimed the Coppa Italia with a 2-0 victory over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on 13 May. An Adam Marusic own goal and a Lautaro Martínez finish gave Chivu's side a comfortable night in Rome, with goalkeeper Josep Martínez keeping Lazio at bay in the second half to preserve the clean sheet.
Speaking on journalist Gianluca Rossi's YouTube channel, Tronchetti Provera was fulsome in his assessment of a season that erased the disappointment of last year — when Inter finished second in the league, exited the Coppa Italia at the semi-final stage and suffered a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
"The joy of seeing Chivu revive the squad after a complicated year is a satisfaction for all Interisti," he said. "When Marotta decided to give him responsibility, what I shared with Massimo — Moratti — was a judgment of a reliable, intelligent, serious boy who could make it. I was very impressed by the capacity to react, and by Chivu's choice to sometimes raise the defensive line."
Chivu, 45, played for Inter from 2007 to 2014 and was part of José Mourinho's treble-winning squad in 2010. He was appointed coach last summer after guiding Parma to Serie A survival in his first senior management role, replacing Simone Inzaghi who departed for Saudi Arabia.
Captain Lautaro Martínez was the season's standout performer with 16 Serie A goals and 20 across all competitions.
The Italian Double — the first achieved by any club since Juventus in 2017-18 — caps a remarkable recovery season built on defensive resilience and the quiet authority of a manager who knows exactly what the club represents.
