Portuguese outlet Record dismissed earlier claims from Brazil that Benfica had submitted a €20m offer for the 20-year-old, insisting he was not part of the Lisbon club's plans this summer, though other reports since have suggested Benfica's interest and an offer of that value are genuine and still being evaluated by Tottenham.
Journalist Bruno Andrade has since added that Souza's representatives are due to meet Porto officials between Tuesday and Wednesday as the Portuguese side look to accelerate talks, though no formal offer has yet been tabled beyond a clear expression of interest.
According to Andrade, Tottenham are open to doing business, although there remains work to do before any agreement can be reached, with the structure of a potential deal, whether a permanent sale or a loan with an option to buy, still to be determined.
Spurs are naturally keen to protect their investment in a player once tipped as the "next Marcelo" and nominated for the 2026 Golden Boy award, but his time in north London has yielded just four competitive appearances, and he was left out of Roberto De Zerbi's squad for the pre-season tour of New Zealand.
