The Argentine club have identified Rulli as their priority target for the summer and have already received an encouraging response from the player, with talks with Marseille set to be opened. Rulli is valued at around €8.6m (£7.4m) and is contracted at the French club until 2027.
Boca, however, believe two significant obstacles stand in their way. Rulli could choose to wait until he becomes a free agent and join Boca on those terms rather than moving now. Alternatively, Tottenham's interest — confirmed through enquiries already made — could complicate any deal.
Where Rulli would fit into Roberto De Zerbi's plans at Spurs remains an open question. The club's goalkeeping situation will be shaped by their decisions over Antonin Kinsky, who recently signed a new long-term deal, and Guglielmo Vicario, who is expected to leave.
Rulli's availability at a relatively modest valuation reflects both his age and the length of his remaining contract, which limits Marseille's negotiating position if they need to raise funds this summer. For Tottenham, who are rebuilding under De Zerbi and need to resolve their goalkeeping department, a goalkeeper of his experience and international pedigree represents a practical option at a manageable cost.
Whether Spurs push their enquiry into a formal bid — or whether Rulli's own preference for a return to Argentina with Boca proves the determining factor — will become clearer in the coming weeks as all three parties assess their options before the summer window closes.
Rulli's situation is also shaped by the free-agent route he could take. Waiting out his Marseille deal and joining Boca for nothing gives him financial leverage that a mid-contract sale would not. That possibility alone could cool the interest from Tottenham, who would need to convince him that a move to north London is worth forfeiting that option.
