Manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed last week that the Brazil forward had asked to leave the club, and Richarlison looked close to completing a return to former side Everton before Tuesday's transfer deadline, only for the move to collapse.
It is understood the 29-year-old does not feature in Tottenham's plans for the season, a decision that was explained to him before the deadline passed.
Richarlison made his frustration clear in a since-viewed social media post on Monday, declaring: "Never again will anyone decide my future for me."
He started Tottenham's opening-day defeat to Brentford but was left out of the matchday squad entirely for Saturday's 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.
Speaking afterwards, De Zerbi said: "Richarlison, I don't know. He said too many times he wants to leave."
The forward joined Tottenham from Everton in the summer of 2022, having first moved to the Toffees from Watford in 2018. He has entered the final year of his contract in north London, and with the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia still open, a departure is expected within days — Turkish side Trabzonspor have already had two bids, of £15m and £20m, turned down by Spurs.
Richarlison scored 12 goals in all competitions for Tottenham last season as the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League, and he has previously spoken openly about mental health struggles during difficult periods of his career. His omission from the squad list means he is barred from Premier League action until Tottenham can register him again in January, regardless of whether a move materialises before then.
Injured pair Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert were both included despite continuing their recovery from anterior cruciate ligament injuries, with Odobert expected to return before the end of the year.
Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton for a reported £60m in 2022, and has been a UEFA Europa League winner with the club, playing a key role in their run to the 2025 final in Bilbao despite recurring fitness issues that have prevented him from cementing an undisputed starting role.
