Torino's search for a new number one is closing in on Leeds United's Lucas Perri, with the Brazilian goalkeeper reportedly giving his approval to a move and reaching a preliminary agreement with the Serie A club.

Sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has made the goalkeeping position an absolute priority this summer, following a difficult campaign that saw the club shuffle between Franco Israel and Devis Paleari without settling on a clear number one in the wake of Vanja Milinković-Savić's departure to Napoli.

At pre-season training in Pinzolo, head coach Ignazio Abate is currently working with a group made up of Paleari, Nicolò Mascardi and several Primavera goalkeepers, but the long-term starter has yet to arrive.

Petrachi's aim is to find a shot-stopper capable of providing the reliability and continuity that were missing last season, avoiding a repeat of the uncertainty that dogged the position throughout the campaign.

Perri, 28, remains top of Torino's list. According to Tuttosport, the Brazilian has already signalled his willingness to move to Serie A and has found broad terms of agreement with Torino. The stumbling block is Leeds United, who have yet to decide whether to replace Perri between the posts or keep faith with him for another season after a mixed debut campaign in England.

Torino will have to wait for Leeds to resolve their own goalkeeping plans before any deal on Perri can progress, leaving the Granata's move dependent on developments in England.

In recent months, Petrachi has also explored alternatives including Federico Ravaglia, for whom no agreement could be reached with Bologna, Paraguay international Orlando Gill, whose value has risen following a strong World Cup campaign, and Dominik Livakovic, a player Torino were tracking even before the tournament but whose situation is considered complex to resolve.

Whichever option is ultimately chosen, the arrival of a new number one will reshape the pecking order in Turin, with Mascardi expected to become the second-choice goalkeeper and Paleari dropping to third in line as Abate looks to settle on a clear hierarchy before the season begins.
