Real Madrid have agreed a new contract with chouameni that will keep the France midfielder at the club until 2031, as first reported by RMC Sport, while he continues to prepare for a World Cup quarter-final against Morocco.
Tchouameni, who joined Madrid from Monaco in 2022 for around €80m, had been entering the final two years of his deal, which expired in 2028. He has become one of the club's most reliable performers since arriving, starting regularly under Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, and his versatility has repeatedly bailed the side out defensively when asked to fill in at centre-back.
Madrid's difficult season, which ended abruptly amid reported friction with Fede Valverde, had led to doubts over Tchouameni's future.
But despite interest from elsewhere and his standing among Europe's elite clubs - Manchester United were said to be readying an offer in excess of €100m - the 26-year-old's preference was always to remain in the Spanish capital and sign the extension.
The arrival of Jose Mourinho as head coach is understood to have played a significant role in convincing Tchouameni to commit, with the Portuguese having personally made clear the midfielder would be central to his plans.
Every major squad decision this summer has effectively required Mourinho's sign-off, and sources suggest he had a decisive say in the push to renew Tchouameni's terms.
News of the extension broke as Tchouameni returned to training with the France squad at their Bentley base. He missed the last-16 win over Paraguay through a muscle injury but is not ruled out of the Morocco tie, and spent time speaking with head coach Didier Deschamps, who appeared to be checking on his condition as the squad continued their preparations.
