Tapsoba, 27, has developed into one of the Bundesliga's most consistent defenders since joining Leverkusen from Vitória Guimarães in January 2020, and has been a key figure in the club's recent success.
He was a central part of the squad that won the domestic double in the 2023-24 season, and has contributed five goals and three assists in 41 competitive appearances this term.
Sporting director Simon Rolfes was effusive in his assessment of a player who has attracted sustained interest from clubs across Europe during his time at the BayArena.
"Over the past six and a half years, Edmond Tapsoba has become an absolute key player for our Werkself — one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, who performs at the highest international level," Rolfes said.
"He was an anchor in our double-winning team. As one of the most experienced players, Eddy will continue to lead the way in building another title-winning squad. This long-term contract underlines our high ambitions for the coming years."
Tapsoba spoke of his attachment to the club and his desire to add to the honours he has already collected.
"Bayer 04 Leverkusen has become something special for me — a second home where I have made many friends," the centre-back said. "I am proud of what we have achieved together. I have had some fantastic experiences here and celebrated some fantastic titles. That is exactly what we will strive for again in the future."
The extension represents a significant statement of intent from Leverkusen, who retain one of their most important players through to his early thirties.
