Como president Mirwan Suwarso has called this the club's most important season yet, as Cesc Fàbregas hailed new signing Trevoh Chalobah.

Suwarso reflected on how far the club has travelled before what he called the most important season in its history, with Como set to juggle Serie A, the Coppa Italia and a first-ever Champions League campaign, in a message posted to Instagram.

"For the first time in our history, the first team will play in Europe, facing three competitions and a level of commitment never experienced before," he wrote.

The club's growth extends well beyond the first team, too, with the Primavera side set to play in the Primavera 1 division and the UEFA Youth League, and the women's team making its Serie A debut this season.

Suwarso was careful to frame the club's rapid rise as fragile rather than secured.

"Everything we achieved last season, today, no longer counts. We start from zero points, zero wins, zero achievements," he said. "Seven years ago we were playing in Serie D. Today we're still a small club operating at a level that was then almost unimaginable. We've grown enormously, but we have to grow further."

He also pointed to the need to diversify the club's finances beyond broadcast revenue, saying Como "cannot depend solely on television income" and must be willing to take risks and learn from mistakes as it builds a sustainable future.

That sense of ambition was echoed by head coach Cesc Fàbregas in a separate interview with DAZN, discussing the club's marquee summer arrival, Trevoh Chalobah. The 27-year-old centre-back joined on a permanent deal from Chelsea worth around €30m plus add-ons, snubbing sustained interest from Inter Milan to link up again with Fàbregas, whom he played alongside at Stamford Bridge in 2018-19.

"He's not our usual signing. It's a different kind of signing — not a young player with potential, it's a formed, important player, with experience and big matches in his head," Fàbregas said of the England international.

"He plays every week against Haaland, Dembélé, Kane... in the Premier League, if you're not ready, the league kills you. We think he'll be a very important signing for us."
