Genoa levelled through Mikael Egill Ellertsson after Alex Scott had put the Cherries ahead inside 13 minutes, but from that point Bournemouth were relentless, with the scoring broken down as 1-0, 3-1, 3-0 and 3-0 across the four periods.

The scale of the win has not been universally accepted as a straightforward result, however. Genoa's own account of the fixture described it not as a genuine friendly but as more of a "conjoined training session" at Bournemouth's performance centre, a characterisation reflected in the fact the match did not even appear as a formal result on the Italian club's official website.
Genoa, who finished 16th in Serie A last season under Daniele De Rossi after taking over from Patrick Vieira in November, arrived in England off the back of a win over Leicester City and had shown some encouraging signs in earlier fixtures on their UK tour before running into a Bournemouth side clearly further ahead in their own pre-season cycle.
