Ravenna have pulled off arguably the signing of the year in Italian football, and not just within Serie C, after agreeing a deal with Ronaldinho to return to playing 11 years after his retirement.

The former Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and AC Milan playmaker, 46, will pull his boots back on for the Romagna club. A World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002 and Ballon d'Or winner in 2005, Ronaldinho will now attempt to show that class never fades.

The move was confirmed after an agreement was reached in the United States between Ronaldinho and Ravenna president Ignazio Cipriani, who had previously gifted the Brazilian a club scarf and publicly expressed hope of one day seeing him in Ravenna's colours.

Both parties confirmed the deal in their own words.

"New colours, same smile. I can't wait to dance with the ball again and write a new story together with Ignazio and the whole Cipriani family," Ronaldinho said. "Football has always been a source of joy for me, and I want to bring that same spirit to Ravenna."

Cipriani described the signing as a defining moment for the club.

"I spent 24 years of my life in the United States, but I still consider Ravenna my home," Cipriani said. "Signing Ronaldinho is something absolutely extraordinary for the club. He was my idol, and his impact on football goes well beyond what he did on the pitch."

Ronaldinho will be officially unveiled as a Ravenna player on 23 June in Miami, during the presentation of the club's new kit.

The event will also carry a charitable dimension, with Ravenna and the Cipriani family making a donation to Street Soccer USA, a Serie A-affiliated charity that uses football to support the sporting, social and cultural development of young people and communities in difficult economic circumstances.
