The businesswoman, who is leading a consortium bidding to buy a 25.1% stake in West Ham United from the Gold family, still owes the Magpies the outstanding six-figure sum, according to The Sun.
Staveley used Redstart Leisure, previously known as Cantervale Limited, to fund her purchase of and investment in Newcastle United, as well as for payments connected to advisory work for the club. She placed the firm into voluntary liquidation in 2024, but liquidators have since confirmed the debt to Newcastle remains unpaid.
In October 2024, Staveley told liquidators she believed the company would be able to repay its debts in full, together with interest, within 12 months, a declaration liquidators say has not been honoured.
The loan is described as an unsecured trade and expense debt. Staveley's West Ham consortium includes private equity firm PCP Partners and is co-led by her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, who was also involved in Newcastle's Saudi-backed takeover. The group hopes to restore West Ham's Premier League status following relegation and could go on to buy the London Stadium outright.
Away from the boardroom, Newcastle have been busy strengthening for the future after confirming the signing of highly rated winger Kyran Thompson from Arsenal. The 16-year-old, who can also play as a centre-forward, left the Gunners as a free agent after his contract expired, choosing St James' Park ahead of interest from Tottenham Hotspur as well as a new offer from Arsenal themselves.
Thompson announced the move himself on Instagram, posting a video produced by his representatives at Truth Sports showing him arriving at Newcastle's training ground, meeting club staff and posing in the Magpies' shirt alongside his family.
"Grateful to sign for Newcastle United," he wrote in the caption. "Ready to get to work."
He later posted a farewell message to Arsenal, thanking the club "for everything," per the Newcastle Chronicle.
Thompson had impressed Gunners boss Mikel Arteta enough to train with the first team, having joined Arsenal's academy from West Ham United two years ago, and featured for England's under-17s, scoring in a 5-2 friendly win over the United States in November 2025.
As he is not yet old enough to sign a professional contract until he turns 17 in September, Thompson is expected to begin on scholarship terms at Newcastle. Mathias Jaissle, meanwhile, is yet to be officially confirmed as the club's new head coach, despite Newcastle agreeing to pay Al-Ahli £9.5m in compensation.
