Marcos Senesi is set to become Tottenham Hotspur's first signing of the summer after Sunday's Premier League survival confirmed the condition attached to his verbal agreement with the club.

Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto revealed the verbal agreement between Senesi and Tottenham, with a four-year contract until 2030 understood to be in the final stages of preparation.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany had first reported an agreement in principle in April. Bournemouth officially confirmed Senesi's departure last week, stating he would leave when his contract expires at the end of June.

Senesi, 29, joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022 under then-sporting director Richard Hughes β€” now Liverpool's sporting director β€” and made 105 appearances for the club across four seasons. He turned down multiple contract extension offers from Bournemouth and made clear early in the season that he intended to leave. The club respected his position and both parties agreed there would be no January exit.

Tottenham's pursuit began in earnest when Roberto De Zerbi took charge in late March, and the Italian head coach viewed Senesi as exactly the type of experienced, ball-playing centre-back his system demands. Senesi had an explicit condition: he would only commit to the move if Tottenham maintained their Premier League status.

Liverpool also monitored the situation closely, particularly in light of uncertainty over Ibrahima KonatΓ©'s contract renewal. Manchester United and Aston Villa made contact. Tottenham moved ahead of all of them by reaching personal terms first and offering the longest contract.

Senesi will leave Bournemouth fifth on the all-time list for Premier League clean sheets among defenders in the club's history. He arrives at Spurs alongside Andrew Robertson as De Zerbi's defensive rebuild begins in earnest.
