The more advanced of the two deals will see Scotland international Kieron Bowie move to Sassuolo, with Samuele Mulattieri going the other way to Verona, according to Sky Sport.
Sassuolo will pay around €10.5 million for Bowie, who only joined Verona from Hibernian for roughly €6m in January but still impressed with four goals in 14 Serie A appearances despite the club's relegation; he turns 24 in September and has two senior Scotland caps. Verona will receive Mulattieri, valued at around €4.5m, with the forward returning to Italy after a loan spell at Deportivo de La Coruña last season that helped the Galician club win promotion to La Liga.
On a separate front, Fiorentina's pursuit of Sassuolo midfielder Kristian Thorstvedt remains unresolved. The Norway international, who is due back in Italy on Monday following the World Cup, has already reached personal terms with Fiorentina and made clear his preference to continue his career in Florence, where he would link up again with coach Fabio Grosso, according to FirenzeViola. Sassuolo, however, are still holding out for a fee of at least €15m for the midfielder.
Fiorentina have explored several makeweight options to bridge the gap, with Marco Brescianini emerging as the candidate Sassuolo like best, ahead of alternatives such as Simon Sohm and Giovanni Fabbian; adding him to the deal would mean Sassuolo add a cash contribution on top, while the valuations of the two players are considered roughly aligned by Fiorentina.
It remains unclear whether Brescianini, who spent pre-season training as an unfamiliar left-back for the Viola, would be open to a move to the Mapei Stadium, leaving the operation stalled for now. Both clubs are expected to look for progress on the Thorstvedt deal in the coming days, one way or another.
The Bowie-Mulattieri swap, by contrast, looks close to being wrapped up as a more straightforward piece of business for Sassuolo, coming as the club also works to replace departing defender Tarik Muharemovic, who moved to Leeds for around €40m earlier in the window.
