The 26-year-old winger has been without a club since leaving Manchester United at the end of his contract and has been considering offers as he looks to restart his career.
Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Sancho has received a lucrative proposal from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club and that a move away from European football is now increasingly likely. A report published by Goal on Wednesday said Getafe’s hopes of signing the England international had faded, with negotiations over the Saudi option progressing.
Getafe president Ángel Torres had previously acknowledged the possibility of bringing Sancho to Spain, while stressing that the club would not force the player into a decision.
“He is without a club, so perhaps he can change his mind and feel like playing. Then we will see what happens. He is 26 and a very good player. We have to be patient, not put too much pressure on him and let him make his own decision,” Torres said.
Sancho’s next destination has been uncertain since his Manchester United deal expired. He joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 but struggled to establish himself consistently in the Premier League and subsequently spent time away on loan.
Those spells included a return to Dortmund, the club where he first made his name at senior level, as well as periods with Chelsea and Aston Villa. The sequence of moves has left the winger seeking a stable next step after several seasons of interrupted progress.
Getafe had been exploring the possibility of signing him as a free agent, but the financial terms involved in a move to Saudi Arabia could prove difficult for the Spanish side to match. The Saudi club has not been identified in the reports, and no official agreement has been announced.
For Sancho, the decision would mean choosing between a return to European football and a potentially more lucrative opportunity in the Saudi Pro League. The latest reports suggest the latter is gaining ground, although the transfer remains unconfirmed until the parties announce an agreement.
