Roma raise over €20m from player sales as Gasperini eyes squad stability

Roma have generated more than €20m in player sales ahead of the June 30th deadline, as the club works to balance its books without selling any of the squad's leading names.

Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has made clear he would prefer to keep his entire group together heading into the new season, and AS Roma's approach so far reflects an effort to raise funds through the exits of players outside his first-choice plans.

The club have already received €4.5m from Elche, who triggered their option to sign Buba Sangare on a permanent basis. A further €3.5m has arrived from Lens, who completed a similar deal for Saud Abdulhamid.

Roma have also banked €2.8m from Basaksehir, who confirmed the signing of Eldor Shomurodov after his loan spell in Turkey, during which he finished as the Super Lig's top scorer.

The next departure expected to add to that total is Tommaso Baldanzi, with negotiations ongoing for a move to Genoa. The deal being discussed is a loan with an obligation to buy worth €9.5m, a structure that would take Roma's total raised through sales to over €20m.

Additional funds could also follow from the departure of Anass Salah-Eddine, whose proposed move to PSV Eindhoven has stalled. The option for PSV to sign the defender expires tomorrow, and the player's representatives have been unable to reach an agreement with the Dutch club at the previously discussed fee of around €8m.

With that option set to lapse, and with Salah-Eddine having impressed in the Champions League and now preparing for the World Cup, Roma are understood to be in a position to request a higher fee from any club that comes in for him going forward.

For Gasperini, the approach represents an attempt to strengthen the club's financial position without disrupting the core of the squad he has built. By generating revenue through the exits of fringe players and loanees rather than first-team regulars, Roma can satisfy financial requirements ahead of the June 30th deadline while keeping the group that performed well last season largely intact.

With Baldanzi's move to Genoa expected to be finalised in the coming days and Salah-Eddine's situation still developing, Roma's business this window looks set to continue, even as the club's most recognisable players remain, for now, off the market entirely.
