AS Roma confirmed the departure in an official statement.
"The Club would like to thank Frederic for his professionalism, dedication, and contribution throughout the season. Thanks in part to his work, the Club achieved important objectives, including qualification for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League."
Massara added his own farewell: "I would like to thank the ownership for the opportunity to return to work in an environment to which I am particularly attached. I believe that this year the Club has created further foundations for a successful future, and I wish the entire AS Roma family every success in achieving new milestones."
Massara's exit follows the earlier departure of club legend Claudio Ranieri, who served as advisor to owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin before leaving in April following a dispute with Gasperini. Roma subsequently went on a five-match winning run to close the season, overtaking Milan on the final day to secure a Champions League place.
D'Amico left Atalanta this week by mutual consent after four years as their sporting director, during which the Bergamo club won the Europa League in 2024 and consistently competed above their financial means. He arrives at Roma with a pre-existing working relationship with Gasperini, having spent three years alongside him at Atalanta before the coach departed for Trigoria in January.
Atalanta's Cristiano Giuntoli, formerly of Juventus, has been confirmed as D'Amico's successor in Bergamo.
