Wilson became Leeds United's first signing of the summer when he joined on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Fulham, finally completing a move that Leeds had tried and failed to get over the line twelve months earlier, when a deadline-day deal collapsed at the last moment. The 29-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Elland Road, linking up with international team-mates Dan James, Ethan Ampadu and Rodon.
Speaking to LUTV, Rodon focused on the qualities Wilson brings beyond his technical quality.
"Knowing H for a number of years, I think he's kind of grown into that leadership role as well, especially with the national team, just kind of his maturity as well with the game," Rodon said.
"Everyone's seen him, he's grown massively as a player on the pitch. But off it, I think he has stepped into more of a leadership role."
Wilson received his first senior Wales call-up at the age of 16 and has since won 69 caps for his country, scoring 17 goals. Rodon, 28, did not establish himself in the senior set-up until 2018 but is now just seven caps behind his team-mate on 62.
The pair are expected to play significant roles for Leeds during the 2026-27 Premier League season, with the club aiming to build on their return to the top flight. Speaking alongside Ampadu, Rodon set out the scale of that ambition.
"As players, we always want to strive for more and we don't want to get carried away," he said. "I think the goals and the challenges change again. Of course, last year was about staying up and being in the league this year, and now I think it's about pushing on and being established and see how far we can take that. When we both joined here, we all knew the project and what we signed up for, so I think it's one step at a time. But of course, this season we want to push on again and push further."
Leeds have also confirmed a departure at the other end of the squad, with full-back Isaac Schmidt leaving permanently to join Swiss side Young Boys. The 26-year-old made just 14 appearances for Leeds since arriving in 2024, starting only twice, and spent last season out on loan at Werder Bremen in search of regular football. The fee for Schmidt's exit has not been disclosed by either club.
