If Sampdoria was the dream, Salernitana was the love story.

Breda became a central figure in Salerno across two spells, helping drive the club to promotion to Serie A in 1997-98. Nearly a decade in granata left its mark.

“The bond is incredibly strong,” he says. “What happened in the past doesn’t disappear.”

He still talks about specific goals, specific derbies, specific nights that welded him to the city forever.

Salerno wasn’t just a stop on the journey — it defined him.

And he shared the dressing room with future heavyweights: a young Gennaro Gattuso, a rising Marco Di Vaio, and defender Mark Iuliano all passed through.

“They were young, hungry, desperate to arrive,” Breda recalls. “Salerno was their launchpad.”

Now a coach himself, he admits this past season back at Salernitana hurt. “I never felt the team was truly mine. We couldn’t change the direction.”

But the history? Untouchable.
